Oberheim OB-X8 Videos by Adam Borseti

video uploads by Adam Borseti

The above playlist features a handful of Oberheim OB-X8 videos by Adam Borseti. Note the first few videos feature the custom OB-Xa style overlay (link below), followed by the stock OB-X style panel.

Playlist:

1. First Day of Summer! (Oberheim OB-X8)
Here's a fun little spur-of-the-moment jam over a song I've been working on. This is the direction I want the song to go in, but I'm probably going to re-record some of it. We'll see. You like the 80s style OB-Xa/OB-8 blue pin stripes for the OB-X8? I do to! They're made of semi-rigid plastic and can be applied or removed in less than 2 minutes with no adhesive. It's really cool to be able to switch between the late 70s OB-X look and the super-1980s OB-Xa and OB-8 look.

Get yours here https://www.synthoverlays.com/product...
2. Random Improv Jam

3. Going places in DOUBLE MODE
Using the SEM filters in lowpass for the bottom layer and a delicious Notch filter on the upper layer pad.
4. OB-X8 - Left Hand Bass Exercises
Laying down bass lines thick and hard with lefty, following the lead of whatever chord righty is holding down. This was all improvised so forgive any chord meandering and weird transitions, mistakes and the like. Is what it is.
5. "Approaching Chaos" - Oberheim OB-X8
All sounds made with the Oberheim OB-X8 run through a Zoom MS-70CDR, with the drums from my Roland TR-626. Enjoy
6. Oberheim OB-X8 - Cinematic improvisation & Double Mode patch
Consider this some filler while I'm working on my next actual song. I'm almost done!
7. "Reflections" - Oberheim OB-X8
A new original tune of mine, the first in a good long while! Less time and more stress have resulted in less creativity haha, but I'm trying over here. :)
8. The Camera Eye - Oberheim OB-X8
I mean, it's THAT sound......

KORG Prologue Tuning Problems?

"Don't buy a KORG PROLOGUE!!!" Published on Oct 5, 2018 Adam Borseti

Anyone seeing this? Comments? It almost sounds like he's just triggering notes at different waveform widths, but then why only that specific note? I had similar behavior on my OB-Xa. It's like one or two voices drift out.

Update 10/24/18:

via Reddit:

"From Korg HQ:

Korg has recently received reports of a slight detuning on a small and isolated range of keys on our Prologue8 and Prologue16 synthesizers.

We have since been investigating the source of the behavior extensively, and believe the issue is present within the software responsible for tuning stabilization. Once the problem presents itself the behavior does not become worse over time. In fact, performing manual tuning may improve performance.

We take this matter very seriously, and assure Prologue dealers and end users that we are committed to correcting this issue with a user-installable software update by the end of 2018.

Our ongoing commitment is to deliver the very highest-quality musical instruments. We apologize for any problems this issue may cause, and thank you in advance for your understanding and patience.

KORG

PS: I can stick around and answer some questions related to this in this thread for a bit."

SLEDGE - Rush "Subdivisions" Cover

Published on Nov 6, 2017 Adam Borseti

"A while back, I recorded a drum track of Subdivisions by hand (key drumming) and put some faux guitar over it. My intention was to develop it into a full-blown cover, but other things got in the way. I LOVE me some Rush, and "Signals" is my album of theirs, so when people started asking me to program a Subdivisions patch on the Minilogue, I knew there was some interest.

Problem is, while the Minilogue is wonderful, you CANNOT play Subdivisions with 4-voice polyphony; not properly anyway! Now that I've got this Sledge, I decided to finish the cover and upload myself laying on the final track (the main synth comp/pad).

There were some mistakes here and there, but I only did this to show off the awesome patches for it that will be included in the set! So, aside from the drums and guitar, everything else was Sledge. That's the intro 7/8 bit, which I doubled up a few times for a Unison type effect, the choir in the bridges, the Minimoog lead (which you see me quickly trying to switch to while playing) and the comp/pad sound that plays throughout the whole song.

Finally, you may have noticed that I am playing the song in standard F,"

Nailed it.

SLEDGE Patches by Adam Borseti

Published on Oct 26, 2017 Adam Borseti

Update: parts 2 and 3 added.

"Hey there, everyone!

I apologize for the rather long hiatus I've been on! I went through a pretty nasty break-up, and just couldn't bring myself to really do anything...... until I bought a Studiologic SLEDGE 2.0, that is!

I'm absolutely in love with this big yellow son of a whore, and you should be too! This is episode 1 of a few videos I'm going to make demonstrating a bunch of patches I made for it. Of course, I WILL be selling them! I just want to make a few more, then I'll be selling them for the usual price of $40. Same old story, just send it via PayPal to Synthestalker@gmail.com!"

XILS Lab - PolyM: Films n' Friends

Published on Jun 7, 2017 Adam Borseti

"Just another demo of the fabulous, upcoming XILS Lab PolyM; a superbly authentic and meticulous emulation of the Polymoog Synthesizer! Of course, you can't even say "Polymoog" without mentioning Gary Numan, so I thought I'd make two demo tracks to demonstrate the PolyM's Gary Numan presets (which I programmed). They will be included with the released product!

DISCLAIMER: Obviously, the backing tracks have some Minimoog in them which I emulated using the end-all-be-all Minimoog soft-synth, "The Legend".

Enjoy!"

XILS Lab - PolyM (Polymoog VST!!!)

Published on May 31, 2017 Adam Borseti

"So! I've been working on a set of presets for the upcoming 'PolyM' soft-synth from XILS Lab! The patches you hear in this demo will be included with the plug-in upon release! The PolyM is stunningly authentic to a real Polymoog in my opinion, and I can't say enough good things about it! You people will love it!

It's about damn time that someone did a proper emulation of the Polymoog!"

Unreleased - Polymoog Plug-in PolyM by XILS Lab

Published on May 24, 2017 Adam Borseti

"Yep! With XILS Lab getting ready to release the PolyM soon, I figured I'd record a little video of myself messing around on a Polymoog plug-in that has never been seen before..... maybe anywhere! Dates back to the summer of 2008, when I was working with the folks over at DubSounds, doing the presets for it.

It's a shame the main designer/coder/GUI artist left for no reason.... it's like he walked off of the face of the Earth! Still, I use this Polymoog from time to time for its authenticity and charm..... nothing sounds like a Polymoog.

Enjoy!

(PS: No, you can't have it!)"

Arturia Matrix 12v - Brass & Strings

Published on May 21, 2017 Adam Borseti

"Great sounds can be had with this beast, if you know how to program it. Matrix modulation is pretty advanced synthesis for beginners! These are the best strings and brass I've ever gotten out of a synthesizer.... certainly the most authentic."

KORG Minilogue - No excuses

Published on May 14, 2017 Adam Borseti

"Hey all!

I just recorded this little number, using the new brass sound I made in the last video (Amazing Brass). This is a great example of my patches in action, namely the more orchestral ones, and how they can really build up!"

STALKER - Improvised Jam Session

Published on Apr 15, 2017 Adam Borseti

"How many of you have read the book, 'Roadside Picnic', or have seen the classic Russian film 'STALKER' by Andrei Tarkovsky? Not many? Didn't think so.

Anywho, this is me basically losing my fucking mind for 20 minutes, improvising off the melody from the main title song of the film. The ARP Odyssey is providing the drone, and later synthy-goodness. The Wurlitzer (if you can really call it that, cuz' it's so processed) is from the amazing Lounge Lizard EP-4; THE best and MOST authentic Rhodes/Wurlitzer plugin on the market, bar NONE.

I used the on-board effects with the plugin running in stand-alone mode.... we're talking reverb, delay, chorus and later on, some crunchy over-drive! I don't expect anyone to watch this whole video, but props to those who do! It was a lot of fun to play!

KORG Minilogue Demos by Adam Borseti

Published on Jan 17, 2017 Adam Borseti

Description for the first video:

"You know, folks.... I think I might like my Minilogue even more than my ARP Odyssey? I know, I know.... but it's just so inspiring.... every time I sit down at it, I just start creating in a way that I can't do with the Odyssey. The Odyssey is great when you know what you're going to play, and need a bassline, then a melody, and everything is planned.... but the Minilogue just let's it all flow.

Anyway, this is 13 minutes of raw improvising done in one take, editing a patch I made as I'm playing. This is actually how a lot of my best patches were created! I just start playing, and the sound tells me where to go.... it leads me into different territory ever knob twist. This sound for example is going to be in my upcoming (long awaited) patch set #5. It starts as a sound called "Triangular" which I dialed in, and was quickly inspired by. It's very... phasey and almost sounds like it's run through an MXR Phase 90.....

Anywho, I play and continue evolving the sound; making it more percussive, then towards the end, I end up with a totally different patch, which I then saved as "Mourn Horn".

EFFECTS USED:
-TC Electronics Half of Fame reverb
-Echo Plex pedal.

I had an MXR Chorus and MXR Phase 95 ready to go, but never turned them on.

Enjoy!"

ARP Odyssey - Jam

Published on Dec 18, 2016 Adam Borseti

"Got my ARP Odyssey right here, baby! I was working on a track using the ARP for all the synth stuff, and the Yamaha CP-20 (underneath it) for the Piano stuff when I decided to record my progress. Before anyone asks, no - I didn't save this track..... it was too loud!

Still, enjoy!"

Arturia Matrix 12: String Improv

Published on Dec 17, 2016 Adam Borseti

"Arturia used to be on my shit list for all the bugs and lack of customer service, but as of lately.... well, they've really gotten it together! So much so that I recently bought the Prophet V, and last night; their Oberheim Matrix 12V.

Let me tell ya, even as an expert synthesist, I was a bit intimidated by the Matrix 12, as it is one of the most (if not THE most) powerful and flexible analog polysynths of all time. With 18 filters, 5 envelopes and LFOs, plus a whole slew of other shit you'd expect from a modular, you might understand my apprehension. Never the less, the Oberheim sound is my Kryptonite and you don't get much better than the Matrix 12.... so I bought it. I listened to comparisons between the hardware and the software and it seems dead on........

First sound I programmed? Well..... actually, it was Vox Humana.... but the SECOND sound I programmed were these strings. These are the best strings I have ever programmed on any synthesizer, EVER. Because the Matrix allows for such crazy modulation and inter-connectivity, I was able to make the Attack and Release transients respond to velocity, so that I could play quick passages without sloppiness in the sound. Also, the amount of PWM and VCO modulation going on is crazy... I'm using 4 LFOs, and some of them are tracked by the keyboard for faster modulation on the higher notes, slower on the lower.

Anyway, this is me just improvising something epic.... I just thought of the Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, and hit record. 1 take.

Enjoy!"
